Designed and developed for the Pacific Radio Group, this massive web site features fresh news and information focused on the island of Maui, Hawaii. Featuring up-to-the minute news articles and video episodes from Wendy Osher and Fred Guzman, the site also offers a concise Dining Guide, Arts & Entertainment section, weather and surf information and much more.

The site is based off the open-source software WordPress MU, a content management system (CMS) capable of supporting such a large site that will accomodate future expansion of integrated mini-sites and blogs. Many custom plugins were necessary to achieve exactly what I and the client needed, developed primarily in PHP integrating with MySQL.

This project consumed much of my time over more than a six month period and to date is the most expansive site that I have developed nearly single-handed. A myriad of difficulties arose throughout the project which required a lot of troubleshooting and problem-solving.

Widely considered to be one of the greatest bodyboarders on the planet, Jack “da Rippa” Lindholm needed a web site and supporting advertising to help him sell and promote his line of custom bodyboards and accessories. Aside from Jack’s legendary status, he is a joy and an enigma to watch in the water as he gracefully and expertly finds the perfect line on every wave.

This web site attempts to capture some of that grace and beauty while still harnessing the raw power of the ocean. Featuring a large photo of Jack on a Tahitian bomb and an artistic poster I designed, the home page intends to awe and inspire visitors.

Jack needed a simple and effective device to allow potential customers to choose their custom boards, so I developed a form that automatically updates the colors of the bodyboard’s deck, rails, and bottom in real-time. This tool helps visualize color choices so the customer knows what their choice will look like before ordering.

Also implemented was a photo gallery that showcases some of Jack’s accomplishments in the water.

I also designed several magazine advertisements that were featured in various bodyboarding magazines to help promote his new business.

Brazilian bikini designer Elie Salazar commissioned me to design and develop two web sites to showcase her line of bikinis as well as print catalogs, brochures, business cards, postcards and promotional materials.

Dozens of photographs needed to be cropped and manipulated to normalize lighting and color palettes to match the style of the site and printed material while maintaining the integrity of the bikinis being sold. Elie did not wish to have an average web site and instead we developed the site under the philosophy that a picture speaks a thousand words, thus enticing a more emotional response from potential customers.

The site also needed to provide wholesalers with a quick way to download important information available through PDFs.

PayPal enabled e-commerce site featuring a collection of wedding accessories hand-crafted by Grace Emata.

Grace required a simple and easy to navigate site that enabled her customers to quickly see her beautiful products intended to be used during their weddings and receptions while visiting Maui. A hand-coded storefront was necessary to stay within her minimal budget that was integrated into PayPal’s popular payment gateway.

Every product featured on the site needed extensive photo manipulation by extracting the product from the background and normalization of lighting and coloring to match the layout and style of the site while maintaining original color integrity.

Created for violinist Don V. Lax to promote and sell his unique experimental CD blending classical violin with didgeridoo and whale song. Recorded live in it’s entirety within a submersible craft, Don and Melissa “communed” with humpback whales by using a hydrophone that picked up the whale’s haunting songs.

A subtle effect using Adobe Flash sets the mood for this site by displaying a majestic whale sunning itself just below the surface of the water with rays of light shimmering off of its back. Short samples of each track from the CD can be listened to using a simple MP3 player that I created using Flash, and several other MP3s may be downloaded directly from the site that showcase Don’s previous recordings that are also available for sale.

Commisioned by Maui-based advertising firm Gilbert & Associates, this site was designed and developed for an upscale shopping center located in the resort community of Wailea, Maui. The shopping center needed a web site to showcase the myriad of stores and restaurants in a quick and easy to navigate site that would also allow easy maintenance and updates.

The simple but large site was implemented using straight HTML and CSS, making it quite simple to update on a monthly basis and also allowed for future expansion without too much forethought.

The original web site needed to be overhauled and re-structured for easier navigation, and a directory of shops and restaurants was developed to allow patrons to quickly locate every business housed within the center.

Originally created in autumn of 2001, this web site has become Maui’s number one surf forecast and ranks high in the search engines. Intended to provide friends with a surf forecast focused on Maui, the site now offers many resources that enable visitors to know fairly well when the next swell is coming and from which direction and how long it should last.

Although heavily relying on custom PHP scripts, the site is based upon the open-source CMS, Joomla.
